You have a problem. You have been entrusted with the task of hiring a search engine optimization (SEO) company to provide several online marketing services to your company. You went out and did a Google search for « seo» and obtained a list of more than 300 SEO agencies.
You start contacting the firms starting with the one above, since it seems reasonable that the guy above knows what he is doing. But when you get in touch with companies, they all tell you the same thing, or as one reader said in a comment about one of my previous articles, “SEO is without a doubt the best scam in history Indianapolis seo company.
First, let’s clarify some misconceptions about SEO companies. If you find yourself thinking about any of the following things, question your assumptions.
This SEO Company has a good website, I bet it would be good to work with them. A nice looking website is not a good SEO company. If you are looking to hire an SEO company that can also take care of designing your new website, then yes, you should probably consider how good your own website looks. But if you are only looking for first class SEO, some of the best companies have websites that are decidedly second class.
These guys rank first in SEO-related searches in my geographic area, they should know what they are doing.
Nothing more outstanding than 50 other companies that focus on the same keywords. Fortunately for us, it seems that Google put a lot of weight on those first two factors.
This company has hundreds of employees and is making millions, they must know what they do. ”Yes, that company is good at something, but it may have nothing to do with SEO. They can be great because they know how to form the right types of associations, a skill that may not translate into SEO success for their clients. The best “SEO Company” for you might not be a great company.
Bigger is not always better. The right SEO Company for you could be a guy who works from your basement. Or it could be the international SEO Company with 500 employees. Do not cancel either automatically.
Would you hire an accountant because he looks good, speaks well or has worked for many companies? How much do these traits have to do with the job of being an accountant? Similarly, you need to look beyond the superficial to hire the right SEO Company. Here is how to do it.
Decide what you need. Do you need to remove links, reputation management, a unique SEO audit, continuous SEO, link building, PPC management, retargeting, content marketing or one of the other 20 services that SEO companies frequently offer? If you are not sure what you need, start by figuring out the work you have to do. Do you want to increase sales by 20% in the next 12 months or lead by 50% in the next six months? Your goal is to increase rankings, or do you just need the boss to know that someone is working in SEO and then you can mark this annoying topic from your list of things to do? Keep a goal in mind by which you will measure the success of your commitment to your SEO Company, and make that goal the center of your communication with them. If you cannot measure the success of your SEO efforts, you are less likely to succeed with them.
