Clear Differences Between Display Advertising and Affiliate Marketing

When I started writing this blog post, this famous proverb triggered me. “There are hundreds of ways on the earth for a person who want to make money”. I feel it absolutely right. I feel today it is not 100; 10 time multiplication of it: 1000. After the internet world gave a hope to make our lives easier by the end of the 20th century and Google made it possible in its way, the opportunities augmented tremendously. So I can say, for a person who wants to make money online, opportunities are endless and possibilities are boundless. I am feeling I cracked your brain much, let me don’t crack it more. Let’s jump into the matter.

First let’s define what is display advertising.

What is display advertising?

In display advertising, a website or blog owner displays the ads of other websites on his site through display network. Here the person who displays the ad is called publisher, whereas the person who advertises the ad is called advertiser. Here Google, Facebook, Bing and other internet giants are the display networks between publishers and advertisers.

The advertiser approaches Google or similar display network to display their ad on the preferred publishers’ site. The publisher is paid by display network on the basis of clicks or impressions their ad achieves. Today display advertising is increasingly popular among all sorts of businesses, including mobile app development companies, e-commerce companies and real estate companies.

What is affiliate marketing?

Affiliate marketing differs from display advertising in communication point of view between publishers and advertisers, where the affiliate network is most probably the advertisers themselves. In display advertising, if Google, Facebook or similar websites are the display networks, in affiliate marketing, Flipkart, Amazon, or similar companies are the affiliate networks themselves.  In affiliate marketing, the publisher is paid based on the conversation or sales happened.

For example, you as a publisher display an ad of Amazon related to iPhone 6 product. But you are not paid for just clicking on your ad, instead if the visitor purchases the iPhone 6 on Amazon website through the ad published on your website, you will be paid. It applies same to service related ads like mobile app development, travel service or any other service.

Conclusion:

Today both display advertising and affiliate marketing are increasingly popular among bloggers and ad-oriented websites. For both display advertising and affiliate marketing, a website with a strong traffic is a prime requisite. On the other hand, for advertisers, either advertising method or both are fruitful depending on their business category.
