Dubrovnik has always been an ideal vacation place, but its popularity grew quite a lot in the past few years. The city is a perfect destination for every adventurous tourist and it can provide a full package of attractions. Dubrovnik impresses through its endless beaches, numerous historical vestiges and the overall amazing landscapes. If you plan on visiting Dubrovnik in the near future, there are some attractions that you should not miss, because they will make your trip so much more memorable and unique.

The City Walls

Dubrovnik City Walls

Dubrovnik is designed as a fortification and you will notice that from the very first moment you arrive there. The imposing city walls are surrounding the old city core, making you feel like you just took a leap back in medieval times. However, for a more intense and personal experience, you should climb the walls and from up there admire the impressive view on the Adriatic sea and the city. You have to pay a small fee for that, but it will totally worth it since walls run for about two kilometers in length. Even if they are 500 years old, the walls are still in good shape. In fact, in 1979 these defensive walls have been placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Stradun Street

Stradun Street

Stradun is the most interesting street in Dubrovnik and also, one of the most frequented by the locals and tourists alike. It’s the core of the city and the place with the most impressive buildings and monuments. Even if it’s only 300 meters long, you could spend hours there, admiring all the unique vestiges. If you arrive in Dubrovnik during summer, you will have the chance to participate at some cultural and traditional festivals, organized on this very street.

Lovrijenac Fort

There are many historical constructions in Dubrovnik, but this one is the most interesting. Built more than 1000 years ago, on a 37 meter rock, the Lovrijenac Fort is the proof of perfection. Is the accurate example of what happens when humans and nature work together. Lovrijenac was built as a defensive hub and it protected Dubrovnik for many years. Repelling attacks both from land and sea. However, today it serves a more important purpose and it’s a true a symbol of peace, harmony and fineness. For a memorable experience, you should visit it during the Summer Festival. This way, you can enjoy some quality theater representations in an amazing and unique environment.

St. Blaise’s Church

St Blaise Church

Saint Blaise has been the patron saint of Dubrovnik for more than 1000 years. Its church, is the perfect combination between an astonishing architecture and refined spirituality. The St. Blaise’s Church is a place of meditation and calmness. No matter what’s your religion is, you will be overwhelmed by its special vibe. Although it is built in Baroque style, the church doesn’t resemble with any other church in the world, mostly thanks to its unique motifs. The interior is decorated in a very detailed manner, with shinning marble and Gothic statues. Visiting this cultural monument will charge you with energy and new-found appreciation for the old European heritage.

Lokrum Island

Lokrum

Even if you visit Dubrovnik just for a few days, you should take your time and visit Lokrum Island as well. It’s not far from the city and you can reach it through boat charter service in just a few minutes. The island is not very large, but it’s designed in the same way as Dubrovnik, with numerous natural and architectural attractions. Because of its natural treasures and unique flowers, we can consider the whole island, a big botanical garden. The only permanent inhabitants of the island are the peacocks. They are very friendly and they often interact with tourists, so make sure that you bring a treat for them.

As you can see, Dubrovnik is quite a place to visit. It is rich both with cultural and natural wonders, so everyone is bound to find something interesting there. And since popular TV show Game Of Thrones is filmed in Dubrovnik, the city has become interesting to pop-culture enthusiasts as well.
